Flood Update from New England
Please continue to pray for recovery from flooding in the New England area.
Marlene Yeo, director of Somebody Cares New England, is serving as coordinator of the faith-based networks for disaster relief for the United Way of Merrimack Valley and was recently appointed by the Governor of Massachusetts to the Board of Trustees of Northern Essex Community College. She is pursuing approval to present a series of classes for NIMS and CERT training for these networks in the area. “The National Guard is now in the area and we are working alongside the local United Way, offering encouragement, blessing, and resources,” Marlene said. “When they pass on needs for resources or volunteers, we use our church database to get the word out. God is doing wonderful things with Somebody Cares in the city!”
Specific needs include:
· Sump pumps for the cities of Lawrence and Lowell.
· A 53′ trailer truck of food. The city’s pantry was damaged in the flood and is not operating.
· Sleeping cots and other bedding for relief workers.
