SCA SUMMIT/TPMI ANNIVERSARY REVIEW

Over 150 delegates and representatives from Somebody Cares America chapters and other compassion ministries across the U.S—and even from Israel and Fiji—converged in Houston for the Somebody Cares America/International Summit, held October 15-17. “We were all blessed and strengthened and encouraged,” said Marlene Yeo from Somebody Cares New England. Buddy Hicks from Somebody Cares Humble said, “Everyone I visited with had a great time. All of us agreed that it was the best yet.”

Highlights included the opening night, with worship by Ariel Salazar from Somebody Cares Garden Oaks and spontaneous worship from Ronen Shalom—husband of Turning Point missionary Melanie Shalom—from Israel, and Katie Stevens, wife of Matt Stevens from Chain Reaction in Baltimore. Monday evening worship was led by Mike Ash and Louis and Tabitha Kent, formerly with Last Days Ministries and the band “Thirsty Child.” Doug Stringer was asked to pray over the Kent’s adopted five-year-old son from Thailand. Throughout the day on Monday and Tuesday, SCA chapter representatives reported on God’s faithfulness throughout the year. George Otis Jr. from The Sentinel Group stopped by Tuesday, and Pastor Suliasi Kurolo from World Harvest Centre, one of the largest churches in the Southern Hemisphere, ministered to the delegation while also giving an update on Somebody Cares Fiji.

The Summit ended with around 500 people attending a celebration banquet for Turning Point Ministries and Somebody Cares 25th anniversary, along with Doug Stringer’s 50th birthday. Joining the SCA delegates were pastors and representatives from over 30 local churches and ministries, including Dodie Osteen from Lakewood Church. Several “Turning Pointers” honored Doug Stringer as a spiritual father, and ministry leaders such as Jack Hayford, Pat Robertson, Bishop Dale Bronner, Bishop Bart Pierce, and others sent birthday greetings and congratulations by video. Texas Governor, Rick Perry sent greetings by official letter. The night concluded with official recognition of Somebody Cares Chapters in Brazos Valley, Warren PA/Jamestown NY, Rochester NY, Greater Lowell MA, Kenya, and Brazil.

DVDs and CDs of the Summit and the banquet are available for purchase.

  • Dr. Doug Stringer has skillfully reminded us of those truths the apostles and early church fathers clearly understood and fervently taught, that “in the old covenant the new was concealed, and in the new covenant the old is revealed.” As I read I could only say a resounding AMEN! Dr. Charles Travis, President Logos University, Jacksonville, Florida
  • This book gives insight into many of the principles that have motivated Doug to go where others were not willing to go. • HOPE FOR THE SOLE

For five years, Pablo Contrares has taken shoes to the little children who live on the bad side of the city-dump in Juarez, Mexico. Most of these children live in houses built from the refuse of the dump. “While many helpful groups are ministering to these children, the practical help of a pair of shoes has been a dramatic blessing to hundreds of precious children over the years,” Pablo says, “and is something no one else is doing.”

Leading this effort to touch the children is Hope Christian City Church in Colleyville TX, pastored by Paul and Judi Cole. “Our goal is to take over 500 pairs of shoes to Juarez for the children. Our Van of Hope heads to Juarez the day after Thanksgiving, November 24th. Your help is extremely vital to making this happen. Thank you for opening your heart to the kids.”

To find out how your church or business can participate by making or collecting donations of shoes, please call the Somebody Cares Houston office at 713-621-1498.
