Somebody Cares America is already spearheading relief efforts for Hurricane Rita in Southeast Texas. Within hours of Rita’s passing, Somebody Cares began deploying supplies, trucks, and manpower, including generators that were already en route from North Carolina. Early Saturday morning Doug met with and briefed a team from Antioch Church in Waco, TX, who were en route to Southeast Texas to assess greatest needs there. We were able to connect the Antioch team to various leaders involved with Somebody Cares Southeast Texas. They were very helpful in sending some initial updates from Beaumont Saturday afternoon.
Working in conjunction with Somebody Cares Southeast Texas, a coalition of churches and ministries from Beaumont, Vidor and Orange, Somebody Cares will be setting up an operations and command center at Cathedral in the Pines in Beaumont. First Baptist Church in Kirbyville will be the staging area for operations in Kirbyville and Jasper, two of the areas hardest hit by the storm.
“Because of our existing network of ministries and churches across the state and the nation, Somebody Cares is ideally positioned for rapid response in times of crisis,” says Somebody Cares America founder and president Doug Stringer.
Somebody Cares has assisted thousands of evacuees from Hurricane Katrina in the past few weeks in Houston, Beaumont, San Antonio, Austin, and Dallas, as well as providing relief and assistance to disaster sites in Miss. and Louisiana.
