“DON’T FORGET ABOUT US…”

That’s what flood victims in Eastern Kentucky said to Pastor Danny Quillen when FEMA and other agencies concluded their response operations to last summer’s flooding. SCA helps hundreds of families who are still recovering, living in temporary campers or with extended family.

“Hearing them say that is what made me determined to continue helping as much as I can,” he said.

Because of your support, Somebody Cares has equipped Ps. Quillen and his church, New Freedom Fellowship, with badly needed materials: heaters, blankets, and more. Belinda Thacker, SCA’s Communications Director, recently assisted the church in distributing heaters, blankets, groceries, and Somebody Cares comfort bears to those still struggling to recover. Fifteen families received heaters and blankets, and 248 families received groceries on that day. More distributions are planned in the coming weeks.

“One young family lost everything in their basement and back yard–they could actually see the water rising under the house through their hardwood floors,” Belinda said. Thankfully, water did not get in the upper levels of the house but their heat pump was destroyed and the roof was badly damaged. The tiny space heater they are now using does not heat the whole house. “They are so grateful for another heater to help them and their three children stay warm through the rest of the winter.”

SCA also provided a heater to a man who is still grieving the loss of his mother and sister in the span of a few weeks. He was living in a camper with no heat.

“There is such a need here,” Pastor Quillen added. “We give what we have and look toward their other needs also. It’s worth it to see the smiles on people’s faces. But we always offer prayer, too, because if we don’t do it in the name of Jesus, what good is that?

“We’re so glad to work with Somebody Cares. Thank you for being there for us.”

Your gift today will enable SCA to continue sending help to flood victims.
