Preparing for Hurricane Florence
In preparation for Hurricane Florence, Somebody Cares America has just hosted a conference call with partner ministries and affiliates throughout the East Coast to pre-plan staging areas and deployment strategies at various locations from Florida to Virginia.
Because of our extensive experience with past disasters, we already know that two immediate needs will be gift cards for local partner churches to distribute to families who suffer loss; and finances to help procure essential materials–such as food and shelter–and to cover the fuel costs of transporting them.
While we are praying that Florence dissipates or changes its course and heads back into the ocean, we are planning ahead by contacting relationships and organizations that we have partnered with in the past.
Among those partner ministries is CRI, based in Wilmington, N.C. Director Sean Malone tells us CRI is ready to receive resources and will be sending us real-time assessments immediately after the storm passes so that we can better meet the needs of the community.
“We are locked and loaded and prepping for a full scale feeding operation and point of distribution,” Sean told us. “We have the ability to receive tractor trailer loads of supplies. We have a 250×150 tent, two high capacity mobile kitchens, and a guarantee of one trailer load of goods once roads open up.”
Mark Roye from Somebody Cares San Antonio and Mike Lynch from Ally Force Ministries in Minneapolis are both part of our Holy Smoke grill team. They have contacted us from Cambodia, where they are constructing a playground for an orphanage, to arrange deployment immediately upon their return to the U.S. next week so that we can serve hot meals to residents of the disaster areas and to first responders.
Our own Vice President and her family reside in Virginia Beach and are currently preparing their home in the event that Florence hits there. She will also be providing assessments and helping us direct relief operations.
Please join us in prayer for all those who are in the projected path of Florence, and and please consider giving now so that we can respond immediately to meet the needs!
