The devastation across the Texas Hill Country continues to unfold, revealing not just the scale of destruction but the depth of heartbreak in the lives of so many affected.

Behind every headline or news clip is a real person with a real name and a real story. They are not just a face on a flyer, a number in a report, or a statistic in a news cycle.

One man in Kerrville lost nearly everything. His grandson, while mucking out his grandfather’s home with a friend, shared a vital need to replace a BiPAP machine his grandfather lost in the flooding and needs for breathing assistance. As soon as we heard of the situation, we began working with our partners to locate or purchase a replacement. This is just one of many stories we’re encountering—where the need is deeply personal, often urgent, and uniquely human.

I also heard of a dear friend of my sister who shared the sorrowful news that her 21-year-old niece passed in the flood—a reminder of how sudden and devastating these moments are. These are not just statistics. They are family members, neighbors, friends, and community relationships.

Even as the media moves on to the next headline, we must not forget. The trauma, loss, and disruption left behind will last for months, even years. Our prayer is that the Body of Christ will not grow weary but will continue to show up—practically, intentionally, and compassionately—for the long haul.
