“We desperately need help in Leander, Texas. We are in the area of Sandy Creek that had the bridge closed down. It was the only way in and out. They are allowing foot traffic only across the bridge, and we need volunteers badly to help with cleanup.”

That message came from someone who connected with SCA in Galveston during Hurricane Ike relief. One of our staff members contacted ministry connections who are working in that area so they can reach out.

Another message came from a friend who pastors a church in San Angelo. “They’ve been clearing and mucking out houses, and they’re pretty overwhelmed,” Doug said.

San Angelo has many lower income families with no or inadequate insurance. Many rental properties were left abandoned, causing additional hardship on the landlords.

“They anticipate needing beds and mattresses, household goods, appliances, refrigerators, and more,” Doug said. “They will definitely be in great need of longer-term resources and building supplies.” We are connecting them with a partner in Minneapolis that specializes, among other things, in procuring building materials.

Later, a furniture store owner in Katy called. He had three semi containers of donations–cleaning supplies, infant care, non-perishable foods–and needed direction on where to send them. Doug immediately contacted our staff serving today on the ground in Kerrville to set up delivery arrangements to a warehouse in nearby Boerne, where one of our long-time partners has graciously offered to receive loads for us.

“One of the unique dynamics of this situation is how widespread it is,” Doug says. “But because of the NET that WORKS, we are able to be in numerous conversations throughout the day, helping bring resources together.”

Special thanks to relief partners SC San Antonio, SC Baltimore, Heart Ministries Minneapolis, Hill Country Daily Bread, Daily Bread San Antonio, CRI, Mercury One, and our other partners on the ground and across the U.S. who are always intentional to work with us as we, together, bring healing and hope. We also thank the churches, ministries, businesses, and individuals–many of them already stretched thin–who have stepped up to help in various ways.

Thank you for caring!
