| God continues to orchestrate divine connections and “winks from heaven” as we serve the Hill Country communities that were ravaged by the July 4 floods.
When Dave Robbins from Sanctuary Chuch in Kerrville got a call from a pastor friend in Montana asking for something specific his church could pray for, Pastor Dave did not hesitate.
“We need a shower truck,” he said.
Right after the disaster occcurred, Pastor Dave had begun looking for a way his church could help. Through a mutual pastor friend from San Antonio, he connected with Mark Roye, our Somebody Cares Disaster Response Coordinator. Mark has been on the ground since Sunday working alongside CRI, one of our faithful response partners. CRI has been coordinating local volunteers for muck-outs and other projects, but they needed a place where they could re-locate their core team. So Pastor Dave offered his church.
“We don’t have showers or enough bathrooms, but I told them they are welcome to come and we’ll make it work,” he recalls.
Meanwhile, Doug Stringer got a call from Pastor Rick del Rio from New York City, who has been a friend of the ministry for nearly three decades and has partnered with us during other disasters, including SuperStorm Sandy in 2012. When he contacted Doug to see how to help with the floods, he asked if we could use shower/bathroom trailers from another friend, Tim Bolton with Lodging Solutions. And of course, Doug said yes! The shower trailer was already in Houston, only a few hours away from the relief site.
“We are thankful for our friend, Tim Bolton, CEO of Lodging Solutions and Industrial Tent Systems, for hearing of this need and immediately responding,” Doug said. “Tim didn’t ask for any recognition, but we want to thank him for his longtime friendship and generosity in times of crisis.”
“It is an honor to partner with Somebody Cares America at the Hill Country flood,” Tim said.
When the eight-stall shower and bathroom trailers arrived today, Pastor Dave was treated to another God-wink as he saw the license plate on the shower trailer was from Montana…where his friend was sending up prayers for showers!
“In Henry Blackaby’s book, Experiencing God, he says to find where God is working and join Him, so that’s what we try to do,” Pastor Dave said. “Our church is a tiny church, but we took on a BIG project, and God has shown up to help us accommodate this large crew of disaster response volunteers.”
The church also has two containers on the property where SCA can store various supplies and donations. These containers were offered at a significant discount from a local U-haul dealer who recently lost his daughter and now is dealing with flood damage to his home. A church member donated money to cover the cost of the containers.
“These are people who are hurting, but they want to help others,” said Pastor Dave.
“There are so many God-stories in the midst of the tragedies,” Doug said. “Thanks to each of you who are joining with us as we share the love of Jesus to so many in need.”
