Somebody Cares has finished the sixth day on the ground in Bumble Bee HIlls, the largest neighborhood of homes in Hunt, Texas, following the tragic July 4 flood. Over 300 volunteers showed up today to help with demolition, debris removal, and mucking out homes.
“It was a good day,” said SCA’s Mark Roye in his daily report. “We’ve got four houses nearly ready to get new sheetrock installed at the beginning of the week.”
And of course, we endeavor to demonstrate the love of Jesus in tangible ways to every home-owner and volunteer.
“There are some good things happening here,” Mark added.
But there are also many urgent needs!
Ferrin Cole from relief partner CRI, who is coordinating the muck-out efforts, says there is still a need for tools for gutting and installing drywall, flat bars, 2000-2500 watt inverter generators, 20v impact drivers, gift cards for the home-owners, and other items.
Meanwhile, Doug Stringer has been connecting needs and resources daily, with trucks enroute to San Angelo from Minneapolis and Baltimore along with other resources heading into the area next week from other locations. SCA has also delivered comfort bears for children; First Responder and Behind the Badge devotionals for those who have been enduring the challenge of search and rescue; a shower trailer for long-term volunteers; generators and wheelbarrows; and much more.
“It’s more than repairing homes,” Doug says. “It’s about offering hope and being the hands and feet of Jesus during a time of desperate need.”
