Scriptures and Key Points:

  • Great moves of God can be inhibited when people allow disappointments and disillusionments to distract them from God’s promised destination.
  • Rather than see the enemy trying to distract us, we begin to complain about each other.
  • It’s okay to talk to God honestly, but it’s not okay to let the spirit of the age dictate to us.
  • When God called the Israelites out of Egypt, it was more than a physical journey. It was the beginning of a personal and corporate revival.
  • God gave them a promise of a land of flowing milk and honey. And that promise is a picture of rest, victory and purpose, a destination that required faith, obedience, unwavering trust in the One who led them.

If we hold on to the moment, no matter what process we go through, then we won’t be distracted from where we’re supposed to go.

  • They were ready to go, but they had their own expectation of how that would look to get there.

Numbers 20:10-13 NKJV Moses strikes the rock

Revelation 13:8 NKJV …the Lamb slain from the foundation of the world.

  • The Rock of salvation has already been struck. He’s already given Himself for you.
  • Now you have the authority to speak into the situation.
  • Quit complaining.

Ephesians 1:21 NKJV Far above all principality and power and might and dominion, and every name that is named, not only in this age but also in that which is to come.

Colossians 1:16-18 NKJV For by Him all things were created that are in heaven and that are on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or principalities or powers. All things were created through Him and for Him. And He is before all things, and in Him all things consist. And He is the head of the body, the church, who is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead, that in all things He may have the preeminence.

Colossians 1:12 NKJV Giving thanks to the Father who has qualified us to be partakers of the inheritance of the saints in the light.

  • We’re not borrowing or taking by force.

God’s already given to us by inheritance when we are in the Lord Jesus Christ.

1 Corinthians 12:12-27 NKJV …Now you are the body of Christ, and members individually.

Matthew 28:18-20 NKJV And Jesus came and spoke to them, saying, “All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth. Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.” Amen.

Ephesians 6:12 NKJV For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places.

  • It’s about surrendering to His Lordship and walking in stewardship.
  • We have an authority to speak God’s Word over our lives and circumstances.
  • They became weary. Then they began to question God and fight each other in the process, when God was trying to bring a corporate revival.

“God takes you out of your Egypt, your world, to take you into the desert. To get the world out of you. So He can get you to possess the land that He gives you.” – Winkie Pratney

John 14:6 NKJV Jesus said to him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.

John 1:14 NKJV And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us…

Hebrews 4:12 NKJV For the word of God is living…

  • If He’s given you a promise, He will keep His promise, regardless of what the delay or circumstance may look like.
  • He is the voice that speaks in our wilderness, reminding us of who we are and who He is, and He is the life leading us into our future.
  • It’s not about who will cross to the promised land, but whether we are ready to cross.
  • When we’re disappointed, we tend to forget all the great things God already did.
  • Remember those moments that God’s been faithful to us.

2 Corinthians 3:18 NKJV …being transformed into the same image from glory to glory…

  • God is bigger than our circumstances.
  • Discouragement is a powerful drug.
  • Miracles don’t keep us in the journey.
  • They are just landmark moments that remind us that God’s pretty awesome and powerful.
  • If we begin to disdain or loathe and detest God’s provisions, then we begin to go to a dangerous place, because we begin to mistrust God.

Matthew 17:20 NKJV …if you have faith as a mustard seed…

The issue is not about whether we have enough faith. But rather, do we trust Him?

  • One, keep your vision of hope to get past difficult situations.
  • Keep your vision of what God has promised.
  • Two, make sure to keep a high expectation on the Lord.
  • He never disappoints.
  • Go deeper every day in consecration, higher in expectation, in the Lord.
  • But the temptation for all of us, through our challenges, is a temptation to settle for less than God wants for us.

Numbers 13:33 NKJV …and we were like grasshoppers in our own sight…

  • The Israelites said that the land was everything God said it is. “But the giants are so big we’re like grasshoppers in our own sight.”
  • And if we see ourselves as little grasshoppers inside of the circumstances, that’s exactly how we’ll act.
  • But if we see the God that gives the promises bigger than the circumstance, then He can give us a vision of hope and destination to possess the land He’s promised us.

Numbers 32 NKJV The Tribes Settling East of the Jordan

  • It’s not that they sinned, but they were tired, they were weary, and settled for less.
  • “This is good enough.”
  • What we don’t see is it has a generational effect.
  • When you take away God’s intent for the corporate move of God and we begin to settle for less, then we’re not able to walk in the fullness of what God wants as a movement, as a congregation, as a generation.
  • They settled for less than God’s best.

Romans 12:2 NKJV …that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.

  • But the point is that God is not going to be upset with you. But don’t we want to go into God’s best for us?

He gives a promise and takes us through the process so that we can walk in the place that He has for us today.

  • It’s not time for us to settle, it’s time for us to press on and press through.
  • Press in, not just for yourself, but for the sake of others.
  • We are building on the shoulders of so many others. The foundations have already been laid, the sacrifices made, the prices have been paid.
  • Because we’re all going to go through difficulties and challenges, and questioning God, but we cannot let those things distract us from God’s intended purposes.
  • The danger of disillusionment is it delays and discourages us on the way.

Numbers 21:4 NKJV …and the soul of the people became very discouraged on the way.

  • They weren’t at the end of their journey…they were still on the way.
  • It’s about worshiping the One worthy of our worship, to be empowered by His Holy Spirit, and to go be a witness in the world.

“If a commission by an earthly king is considered an honor, how can a commission by a Heavenly King be considered a sacrifice?” – David Livingstone

  • Spend time thanking Him for who He is.
  • Next, in humility, ask Him for His wisdom and strength to be who He has called you to be and to do what He’s called you to do.
  • It’s only in His presence that we cannot be discouraged.
  • Because if we’re not careful, we will tend to begin to despise what God has already done.

The wilderness is not the end. It’s the refining process on the way to God’s best.

  • The enemy wants to wear you out. God wants to build you up.
  • You cannot change your past, but the decisions we make every day determine our future.

  • Faith is about the capacity to see beyond what you see.

  • Watch what God will do if we just take care of people, the resources will overtake us.
  • Too often, we settle for less because of fear.

  • God will always multiply and increase our capacity, even for us personally, when we’re willing to give into the kingdom of God

  • The danger of disillusionment is it erodes our capacity for authentic, transforming revival.
  • Keep your vision alive. What has God promised?

  • Don’t let delays redefine your destiny.
  • Let’s not just talk about the promise. But possess it.
  • Revival flourishes when we refuse to settle.

Hebrews 12:2 NKJV Looking unto Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith…

  • God did not do this to me, and if God did not do this to me, it can’t be about me.

  • We need to move that aside and say, “God, it’s not about me, it’s about you.”
