Our hearts ache for the people of Jamaica as they face unimaginable loss in the aftermath of Hurricane Melissa. Entire communities have been devastated. In Black River, local leaders estimate that nearly 90% of roofs are gone. In St. Elizabeth, floodwaters still cover roads and homes. Families are struggling without power, clean water, or safe shelter—many having lost everything overnight.
Even as the scope of the destruction becomes clearer, hope is rising.
The SOMEBODY CARES network is mobilizing to respond. Our initial partner assessment team is currently in Florida, awaiting flight approval and expected to arrive in Jamaica tomorrow. Once there, they will connect with our church and community partners to set up a base camp for volunteer teams and resources.
People are in urgent need of:
- Emergency shelter and roof repair materials.
- Clean water and hygiene supplies.
- Food and basic medical care.
- Generators, lighting, and fuel for shelters and clinics.
