It was just a year ago next week when our friend Naila Ricketts entered into eternity. Naila was not only our SC Caribbean contact but a highly respected minister and prayer leader throughout the islands.

Now, in the aftermath of Hurricane Melissa, his widow, Sharon, has picked up the mantle to serve as our SC Caribbean contact to bring hope and help to so many in desperate need.

“With the kind initiative of Dr. Doug Stringer of Somebody Cares America / International, we have made frequent trips into sections of St. James and St. Ann, being the hands and feet of Jesus Christ to those adversely affected by Hurricane Melissa,” she recently reported. “The road ahead will be long but with Jesus we will make it!”

In addition to providing financial assistance to SC Caribbean, CRI, and other partners serving on the ground, Somebody Cares has collected a container that includes 380,000 fortified rice meals and other badly needed items is scheduled to ship from Baltimore next week, along with another container that will be unloaded and remain on the ground with the SC Caribbean team to use for storage and distribution (see photo above from SC Baltimore).

We need your help to cover the cost of these containers! The cost for shipping is $6,000 plus another $2,000 to purchase the container that will remain on the ground.

Doug and Lisa Stringer will travel to the island next week to meet with friends and relief partners for both immediate and long-term planning.

“Please continue to keep Jamaica in your prayers!” Doug said. “There are still so many overwhelming needs.”

Thank you for caring!
