Our relief partners on the ground continue bringing help to Hurricane Melissa survivors, from meeting practical needs to spiritual care to emotional healing.

A team from network partner CRI visited local schools, where they ministered to over 200 children still carrying trauma from Hurricane Melissa.

“We taught trauma relief exercises, shared 2 Timothy 1:7 (“God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power, love, and a sound mind”), listened to their big feelings, and watched God bring comfort,” they said.

The CRI team also visited a health center deep in rural Jamaica, where homes were swept away by floodwaters and roofs were torn off, to bring both supplies and healing.

“We prayed over everyone in the lobby, led group trauma care to process the sounds and sights of Hurricane Melissa, and helped the helpers: doctors, nurses, and staff who’ve been serving nonstop while their own homes are destroyed,” they said. Supplies included diapers, food, water, and other simple items to remind them, “You’re not forgotten.”

Meanwhile, our partners at SC Caribbean replaced a badly needed water drum for a family in hard-hit Trelawney.

“We love to put a smile in the heart of persons in need,” said our chapter leader Sharon Peart-Ricketts.

While work continues daily, two containers of supplies are also en route and expected to arrive any day.

YWAM Jamaica and CRI will receive one container in Kingston and SC Caribbean will receive another arriving in Montego Bay. Each container holds non-perishable food, and other badly needed supplies, as well as thousands of fortified rice meals. Supplies were donated by network partners in Minneapolis–Ally Force, Heart Response, Starlight Ministries, and Hands in Service–along with items collected by our Somebody Cares Baltimore chapter.

“We are incredibly grateful for Somebody Cares for helping out Jamaica in our time of need,” said YWAM Jamaica Director John Hess.

Doug Stringer continues to strategize with local leaders for long-term recovery strategies, including plans to support business owners.
