Two powerful earthquakes—measuring 7.2 and 7.5 in magnitude—struck Venezuela on Wednesday, leaving widespread destruction along the country’s central Caribbean coast.
Entire communities are now facing the aftermath. Tens of thousands of people have been displaced or are without electricity, clean water, or safe shelter. At least 188 people have been confirmed dead, more than 1,500 have been injured, and rescue teams continue searching for those still trapped beneath collapsed buildings.
Hospitals have been forced to evacuate patients because of structural damage, transportation has been disrupted, and landslides have further complicated relief efforts in several affected areas.
