| Somebody Cares hosted a special dinner at a local restaurant for residents from Bumble Bee Hills in Hunt, Texas, where our network has been working to restore homes.
“It was a time to re-group, share information get feedback, but mostly enjoy a sweet time of fellowship over a meal,” Doug Stringer said. “It was very important to us to hear from the people we are serving.” Of the 10 homes SCA and our partners have been restoring, one is completed and occupied once again by its owner. Volunteers from Heart Response Ministries in Minneapolis and skilled workers from Country Church in nearby Marion, Texas, are working on flooring, drywall, trim work, hanging doors, installing siding, and more. “We have an awesome team doing some amazing work in Bumble Bee Hills,” Doug said. “All our houses are moving along nicely. Special thanks to Mike Lynch from Ally Force, Ed Moreno from City Tribe Church, and William Irwin from Broken Yoke for leading the teams. They are the best. Thanks to everyone for all of the support.” Mark Roye, SCA’s Project Manager, adds: “As we end our 11th week here, so much has been done, with people coming together to help those who were displaced after the floods. Houses are at different stages, and each day we get closer to getting our friends back in their homes. Special thanks to Mercury One, Lowe’s, and so many people and churches that have given to make this all happen.” SCA is planning a Thanksgiving meal for the neighborhood on Saturday, November 22, and is working toward a goal to have all the homes ready by that day for move-in.
