Thanks to our supporters, Somebody Cares blessed families in Jamaica still reeling from the effects of Hurricane Melissa by donating generous Christmas outreach grants to relief partners CRI, Somebody Cares Caribbean, and Honey Bun Foundation.
“This community was hit hard by Melissa,” said one of our local contacts, Wade Prince, who has been coordinating outreach efforts with CRI. “We gathered in a church that had no roof, but we decided to just distribute from there. People from all across the community came through, and it was such a blessing to just serve them in whichever way. And since the hurricane, we have been the first team to go in with supplies.”
Wade and his team distributed 30 backpacks at this outreach and 60 more at later events. Each backpack had toys, gifts, and treats.
“It was such a joy just to watch the different age groups coming in–boys, girls, high schoolers,” he added. “They walked away being blessed, playing with their toys. It was just an amazing day.”
Sharon Ricketts from SC Caribbean, said: “We have really been praying for open doors! What a great blessing you and Somebody Cares America/ International have been to us!”
And Minnett Lawrence from AMI Jamaica, part of the SC Caribbean network, added: “Thank you for doing without being asked. We are working to cover all bases and praying that God will remember those who are in need but can’t be reached.”
