Florence has left a huge path of destruction in North Carolina and parts of South Carolina. Below are updates from some of our partners working in North Carolina and being a tangible expression of God’s love to those impacted by the storm:

  • Crisis Response International (CRI), based in Wilmington, began preparing and serving hot meals yesterday, with 150 very hungry people coming for lunch, without any advertising! Numbers will rise as word gets out. Volunteers are also preparing to take work orders for teams that will be coming to help with clean-up and repairs.
  • Christ in Action moved into New Bern and set up their staging area with equipment to begin clean-up as well as a mobile kitchen to serve meals.
  • Night Runners has set up in Red Springs at the invitation of Councilman Duran Durney, with a police escort helping them navigate through flooded areas so they can begin serving this low-income community. They will start serving meals today.
  • Our Somebody Cares Holy Smoke Grill Team will be en route tomorrow.

In addition, Somebody Cares is busy mobilizing support to send into these and other staging areas.  Of particular need right now are bulk quantities of: cleaning supplies, non-perishable goods, baby supplies (diapers, baby wipes, powder, diaper rash cream), various types of mosquito repellent, food service items (clam shells, paper plates and bowls, napkins, plastic utensils), work tools, chain saws, and generators.  This list will be updated as more needs are identified.

If you can help with large quantities of these types of items please message us or email [email protected]. Donations are also needed to help transport items into the disaster areas, to get gift cards for distribution in communities hit by Florence, and to help with the clean-up and recovery efforts!
