David Stearns is a 98-year old U.S. Navy WWII veteran. He and his wife, Joan Connor, were in their home when the July Fourth flood swept through Texas Hill Country.
They survived the storm but lost everything they owned, including their house–and the will to rebuild.
Their home in Bumble Bee Hills was destroyed. Without flood insurance, they did not know what to do. Their story was featured on the front page of The Washington Post.
They used credit to purchase a travel trailer and lived in a local RV park because they insisted on being part of the community they call their home.
Prior to the flood, Dave underwent knee replacement surgery. He recently had a pacemaker placed, too, so they were eager to get him back into their home as quickly as possible.
Somebody Cares America and our relief partners–along with other partner organizations, volunteers, and friends–came alongside this couple and many others in the aftermath of the tragic floods.
David and Joan’s story is one of many heart-moving God-stories that have come out of the heartbreak. Watch the video above to hear them share more.
