Mark Roye, our disaster response lead, is on the ground in Kerr County, Texas, assessing the devastation caused by this week’s flooding. (Watch the video above from Mark’s visit to Kerrville yesterday.)
The heartbreaking reality is that some of the flood-damaged homes are the very same homes Somebody Cares America and our church partners helped restore after the devastating flood that hit only a year ago.
One home in Center Point, repaired through a partnership between Somebody Cares America and a local church, once again took on five feet of water.
“All the new cabinets and sheetrock need to be replaced again,” Mark shared. “The water crested at 39 feet in this community, leaving behind a tremendous amount of debris. This time, Center Point was hit even harder than it was last year.”
Doug Stringer has also been speaking with pastors, business owners, and homeowners throughout the region.
“Some are families we helped just during the past year,” Doug said. “But there are many more who need help this time. The material needs will be enormous, and the emotional toll of reliving this disaster is just as overwhelming.”
Even as assessments continue, Somebody Cares America is already mobilizing resources and working with ministry and corporate partners to secure critical supplies—including drywall, ShockWave mold treatment, insulation, flooring, appliances, and other materials families will need to rebuild.
