Our Guest: Rebecca Chavez
Rebecca is married to Gerry Chavez, who is the lead pastor of Christ’s Church in Roswell, New Mexico. She has two sons, Nick and Benjamin who is married to Nicole. Rebecca also has one grandson named Beckham.
Before being married she lived in Jerusalem with a heart to serve and stand with the people of Israel. Since that time she returns several times a year to serve God through loving and aiding the people of Israel.
She is relentless to love what God loves and intimacy with Him is her highest goal.
Rebecca serves on the leadership team for the Women’s Ministry at her home church. She loves to encourage and launch people into their God given gifts and passions through the power of the Holy Spirit and the intentional study of the Scripture. As a result she has written many original Bible studies. She loves to teach at events and retreats based on the word of God that transforms lives.
Rebecca founded Deborah The Brave Ministries and The Deborah Project based on the inspiring story of the prophetess and Judge of Israel Deborah, who is called the mother heart of Israel. She also serves on several boards and leadership positions that serve the people of Israel.
Rebecca loves walking the streets of Jerusalem, the beach, a great cup of coffee with great conversation, diving into a new study book and she adds, it’s always a good idea to have a few pushy friends!!
Key Thoughts and Scriptures:
2 Corinthians 5:17 NKJV Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new.
- Rebecca developed an insatiable hunger for the Word of God.
- One reason for her hunger, the Holy Spirit now lived in her and was connecting her to the Lord and wanted to show her Jesus.
- Another reason was because she didn’t know anything about the Bible.
Hebrews 4:12 NASB For the word of God is living and active…
- The Word of God became a living love letter to Rebecca.
- As she immersed herself in scripture and felt the Holy Spirit guiding her, she began healing from her childhood wounds.
- Many believers seek healing, but without the Holy Spirit’s power, we are powerless. He is our comforter and healer, essential for true restoration and comfort.
- The Word of God and a trusted counselor, support from the women in her family and a good church were the nest she needed to receive healing and understanding her identity in Christ.
- There’s so much in the Bible that we don’t understand because we don’t understand Jesus’ culture.
Rebecca realized that sometimes we can have a deep calling, but we can also make an idol out of that calling.
- “Jesus, you’re my first love, not anything else, not a calling, not a ministry.”
- Fear and anxiety are two different things. Anxiety is a definite illness and is a definite physical manifestation of something.
- Some people go through hard times and say, “I had so much peace.” Not everybody goes through that way.
- You can’t really love other people until you’re reduced to love.
- One of the greatest desires of the Father is that we understand when we’re born again and come into relationship with Him, it’s not because He needs somebody to be His secretary. He does that because He wants to be connected with us.
Romans 6:4-5 NLT For we died and were buried with Christ by baptism. And just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glorious power of the Father, now we also may live new lives. Since we have been united with him in his death, we will also be raised to life as he was.
Ephesians 2:6 NKJV And raised us up together, and made us sit together in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus
- What initially healed Rebecca was understanding her identity as the bride of Christ.
- We are His beloved because the Bible starts with the creation of a man and a woman, let’s say a wedding.
- The middle of the Bible is Song of Solomon which describes how God really feels about us, our relationship with Him and the transition that we make from feeling so dark, but yet lovely.
- By the time you get to Revelation, we’re getting married again. We become the wife of the Lamb.
When Rebecca approaches her time with the Lord, she calls it “going into the secret place.”
- We should practice the presence of God all through the day, but if you love somebody, to have undistracted time alone is gold.
- Begin with adoration and gratitude.
- Time with the Lord is not a checklist.
- Develop a love language with Him.
- It’s the Holy Spirit that shows us Jesus.
- So it takes the Holy Spirit in us to give the kind of love that Jesus is worthy of, because human love isn’t gonna do it.
- Rebecca loves decreeing and declaring the word of God because it’s living and active.
- The most important thing of the whole day is to give the King of the universe the glory that’s due His name.
- Rebecca does most of what she does out of relationship and God opens the doors.
- We’re in partnership with Jesus and He wants us to do this with Him.
- As she’s taken care of what’s on God’s heart, the Lord has taken care of what’s been on her heart.
“Miracles manifest in all kinds of different ways, not necessarily in a beautiful outcome, but sometimes through a beautiful life.”
- “The only thing I know to do is to stand on the word of God over this.”
Matthew 19:26 NKJV But Jesus looked at them and said to them, “With men this is impossible, but with God all things are possible.”
Deborah’s Story
Judges 4-5 NIV …“Go! This is the day the Lord has given Sisera into your hands. Has not the Lord gone ahead of you?”…
- Deborah the Brave
- God’s raising up women to become warriors, but we’re soft -hearted warriors.
- She was a woman of integrity.
- But she wasn’t alone in fighting the battles that she fought.
- Deborah was willing to give credit to others.
Hebrews 11:32 NKJV And what more shall I say? For the time would fail me to tell of Gideon and Barak…
- It doesn’t matter as long as God gets the glory.
- The Lord Jesus Christ has gone before us into the battle.
- So it’s our job to fight for the next generation, to open up our hearts to what He’s doing on the earth and get involved, be engaged after we spend time in the secret place.
James 4:7-8 NIV Submit yourselves, then, to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you. Come near to God and he will come near to you…
- The best way to resist the devil is drawing near to God first.
- And as we do that, our desires change, our perspectives change.
- He gives us the courage and power to do what He wants us to do to fulfill the purposes He has for us.
Numbers 6:24-26 NKJV “The Lord bless you and keep you; The Lord make His face shine upon you, and be gracious to you; The Lord lift up His countenance upon you, and give you peace.”
