Key Thoughts and Scriptures:

“If you choose righteousness, you choose liberty. If you choose sin, you choose bondage.” – Benny Hinn

Proverbs 4:10-27 NLT  My child, listen to me and do as I say, and you will have a long, good life…Take hold of my instructions; don’t let them go. Guard them, for they are the key to life. Don’t do as the wicked do, and don’t follow the path of evildoers. Don’t even think about it; don’t go that way. Turn away and keep moving. For evil people can’t sleep until they’ve done their evil deed for the day.    They can’t rest until they’ve caused someone to stumble…Guard your heart above all else, for it determines the course of your life. Avoid all perverse talk;   stay away from corrupt speech. Look straight ahead, and fix your eyes on what lies before you. Mark out a straight path for your feet; stay on the safe path. Don’t get sidetracked; keep your feet from following evil.

Romans 6:15-18 MSG So, since we’re out from under the old tyranny, does that mean we can live any old way we want? Since we’re free in the freedom of God, can we do anything that comes to mind? Hardly. You know well enough from your own experience that there are some acts of so-called freedom that destroy freedom. Offer yourselves to sin, for instance, and it’s your last free act. But offer yourselves to the ways of God and the freedom never quits. All your lives you’ve let sin tell you what to do. But thank God you’ve started listening to a new master, one whose commands set you free to live openly in his freedom!

Christianne’s Story

  • There came a moment when Christianne told the Lord, “Just leave me alone. I want to do things my way.”
  • Her turning point came when she surrendered to the Lord.
  • “Lord, what is it about them that causes them in the midst of all of this (trouble) to stay on track?”
  • Christianne chose to establish boundaries rather than permitting distractions that might lead her away from God.
  • She allowed the Lord to be the one to direct her.
  • A significant boundary for her centered around her thought life.

Romans 12:2 NKJV And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.

  • Once she rededicated herself to following the Lord, He also led her into freedom from past trauma.
  • God started revealing to her the identity she possesses in Christ.
  • “While we were meeting a lot of physical needs, the ultimate need for them was a need for Jesus.”
  • Christianne discovered that God is a fulfiller of dreams.
  • “God, this is so much bigger than me. This is not about me. This has to be about You because I am so not in myself equipped to do this.”
  • When we make ourselves available to God, He takes us at our word and He’ll use us in ways that we didn’t imagine.
  • God utilized her past roles to equip her for the path He intended to lead her on.
  • God has used Christianne’s mentorship of others to grow her as well.

Key Truths to Walk in Freedom

  • As a believer, our truth comes from one source and that is the Lord.

John 14:6 NIV Jesus answered, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.

  • If we want to walk in freedom, we have to go to the truth teller. And that is God and His Word.
  • When Christianne understood more of who God was and what He says, then that defined her own identity.
  • Don’t be afraid to face hard things because that’s how we find our freedom. We take those things that scare us and hold them up to the truth of God’s word and put them in their right place and perspective.

John 8:32 NIV Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.

  • When we understand God’s truth and apply it to our lives, we will find freedom.

Ezekiel 36:26 GNT I will give you a new heart and a new mind…

2 Timothy 1:7 NKJV For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind.

  • When Christianne hasn’t had the words to pray, worship music has helped her.
  • Truth brings healing to the scars and wounds in our lives.
  • “I’m thankful for those scars in my life because when I look back, it’s a testament to God’s truth in my life, creating healing, restoration and redemption because He is ultimately a God of redemption.”

The Samaritan Woman at the Well

John 4:1-42 NKJV

  • The Samaritan woman’s life was a mess when she encountered Jesus.
  • Jesus spoke truth to her. And in that truth, He gave her hope.
  • By drinking the living water of God, her past did not have to continue to define who she was.
  • God can use our mess to change not just us, but those around us.

Galatians 5:13 NLT For you have been called to live in freedom, my brothers and sisters. But don’t use your freedom to satisfy your sinful nature. Instead, use your freedom to serve one another in love.

  • Freedom in Christianne’s life allowed God to expand her love for other people and allowed her to connect and reach out.

Psalms 119:45 NLT I will walk in freedom, for I have devoted myself to your commandments.
