Key Thoughts and Scriptures:

 

Luke 8:1-3 NLT Soon afterward Jesus began a tour of the nearby towns and villages, preaching and announcing the Good News about the Kingdom of God. He took his twelve disciples with him, along with some women who had been cured of evil spirits and diseases. Among them were Mary Magdalene, from whom he had cast out seven demons; Joanna, the wife of Chuza, Herod’s business manager; Susanna; and many others who were contributing from their own resources to support Jesus and his disciples.

 

  • The women stayed by Jesus, even in His death, and followed Joseph of Arimathea to the grave where He was buried.
  • These women planned to come back after the Sabbath. Then they went home to mourn and reconsider their beliefs.

 

Luke 24:5 NIV In their fright the women bowed down with their faces to the ground, but the men said to them, “Why do you look for the living among the dead?

 

  • As they lay trembling on the ground, they were told that Jesus had risen and were reminded of what they heard Jesus say about being crucified and rising on the third day. Now they remembered what He said, but they were still grieving and confused.

 

Matthew 28:8-10 NIV So the women hurried away from the tomb, afraid yet filled with joy, and ran to tell his disciples. Suddenly Jesus met them. “Greetings,” he said. They came to him, clasped his feet and worshiped him. Then Jesus said to them, “Do not be afraid. Go and tell my brothers to go to Galilee; there they will see me.”

 

  • Jesus first told His faithful female followers that He had risen. They were the first to see Him and worship at His feet.

 

He entrusted the greatest news of all time to women.

 

  • Throughout scripture, God esteemed women. When Jesus was on earth, He set women free, healing them, inviting them into His circle and commissioning them to share the good news.
  • Jesus’ resurrection gives us purpose too.
  • Wherever you are, whatever you’re feeling, God wants to meet you there with exactly what you need.
  • After Jesus gave the women and His disciples purpose and direction, the Great Commission, He then empowered them to fulfill it.

 

Acts 1-2 NIV …They all joined together constantly in prayer, along with the women and Mary the mother of Jesus, and with his brothers…When the day of Pentecost came, they were all together in one place. Suddenly a sound like the blowing of a violent wind came from heaven and filled the whole house …

 

  • God wants to empower you too.

 

Hebrews 13:8 NIV Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever.

 

  • And we need the Holy Spirit’s empowerment in our lives to fulfill the purpose of God. We cannot do it on our own.

 

John 14:12-13 NIV Very truly I tell you, whoever believes in me will do the works I have been doing, and they will do even greater things than these, because I am going to the Father. And I will do whatever you ask in my name, so that the Father may be glorified in the Son.

 

  • We must ask. Jesus will answer.

 

God gives us the same Spirit.

 

Ephesians 1:13-14 NLT … And when you believed in Christ, he identified you as his own by giving you the Holy Spirit, whom he promised long ago. The Spirit is God’s guarantee that he will give us the inheritance he promised and that he has purchased us to be his own people. He did this so we would praise and glorify him.

 

Romans 8:11 NIV And if the Spirit of him who raised Jesus from the dead is living in you, he who raised Christ from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies because of his Spirit who lives in you.

  • The Holy Spirit gives us special abilities that empower us to serve the Lord.
  • God knows you. He knows what you need.

 

Ephesians 3:20 NIV Now to him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to his power that is at work within us
