Our Guest: Tangie Callahan
Tangie Callahan is a worshiper at heart, Tangie has been battered and bruised in life, but the Lord delivered her. Her personal story resonates true freedom and hope that can only be found in Jesus. Tangie’s passion is to help others find purpose and live a transformed life in Christ. She is the worship pastor at Bridge Church, which she planted along with her husband in 1998. Tangie’s also a life coach, but her greatest joy is being a wife, mother of four children, and now a grandmother.
Key Thoughts and Scriptures:
Psalm 34:1-8 NIV I will extol the Lord at all times; his praise will always be on my lips…
Psalm 119:77-80 NIV Let your compassion come to me that I may live, for your law is my delight…
- God didn’t abandon Tangie just because she was hiding her pain.
- Everything she felt was self -shame.
James 5:16 NIV Therefore confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed…
- God puts desires in our hearts when He knows that we truly want to do His will, then He fulfills them.
- He wants us to see His goodness and love in our lives. Even when we’re struggling in some areas, He’s still blessing us.
- When we’re children of God, He will correct us gently.
- “Lord, I can’t continue to do this. I can’t continue to be in ministry and be hurting like I am.”
- Tangie felt she was living a fake life. She would preach “Jesus was freedom, Jesus was our deliverer”, but was still struggling herself.
- “If you will show me what to do, I’ll listen and I’ll obey.”
- As she obeyed the Lord in working out, she would quote scripture and the Lord would speak to her and she felt Him say, “Tangie, just as you are sweating, I am healing every wound that happened to you. If you will allow me, Tangie, I will heal you.”
- Sometimes we want God to do it instantaneously. But He knows the best way for us. He knows to really transform our minds as well as our bodies, sometimes there’s a process involved.
- Instead of going to the Word, she had gone to food.
But every day Tangie would say, “Okay, Lord, I give you this day. I give you this hour.”
-
- As she gave each hour to the Lord, she started her day with the Word and the Lord would begin to cleanse her.
- Having children helped bring into focus God’s purpose for Tangie. Her desire for her children to have healthy, godly self -image extended to other women as well.
- “I want to help women be able to hear the voice of the Lord in their life.”
Key Principles for Breakthrough:
- Listen to the voice of the Lord.
- Give the Lord all areas of your life.
- God is there no matter how big the problem, no matter how small. He cares about the very, tiny things in your life that you’re concerned about.
- Take the Word and apply it to your life.
- Declare His Word over your body and life.
Proverbs 18:21 NKJV Death and life are in the power of the tongue…
God began to teach Tangie about trusting Him.
- “Tangie, I’m sovereign. I am in charge.”
Jeremiah 29:11 NIV For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.
- If you’re a mom and you have children that are wayward, begin to call on the name of the Lord and find that scripture, God will turn that situation around for your child.
Isaiah 55:11 NKJV So shall My word be that goes forth from My mouth; It shall not return to Me void, but it shall accomplish what I please, and it shall prosper in the thing for which I sent it.
- God is still using her son’s gifting, but it looks completely different.
Proverbs 16:7 NASB When a person’s ways are pleasing to the Lord, He causes even his enemies to make peace with him.
- The grace of God kept Tangie and her husband from getting bitter when friends hurt them.
Psalm 37:23 NLT The Lord directs the steps of the godly. He delights in every detail of their lives.
- When we know beyond a shadow of a doubt that God is good, loving, and for us, it changes our whole perspective and our whole life.
- There comes a point where we have to forgive. For Tangie, that was the beginning of her healing.
- If it’s hard to forgive right now, by faith just begin saying it and God will show up with you.
The Woman with the Issue of Blood
Mark 5:25-34 NKJV …And He said to her, “Daughter, your faith has made you well. Go in peace, and be healed of your affliction.”
- Tangie felt that she was bleeding on the inside for years and nobody knew. Yet the woman with the issue of blood had outward signs of her bleeding.
- If we can get in the presence of God, it changes us.
- The quickest way into the presence of God is His Word.
- So the Bible says that when she touched the hem of His garment, immediately, not a few minutes later or the next day, her body was made whole and the bleeding stopped.
- When He said “daughter”, it’s the only place in the Bible where He says “daughter” to any woman. It restored her identity.
- For when God healed Tangie, her identity was restored as well.
Psalm 119:41-48 NIV May your unfailing love come to me, Lord, your salvation, according to your promise…
1 Kings 8:57-60 NLT May the Lord our God be with us as he was with our ancestors; may he never leave us or abandon us. May he give us the desire to do his will in everything…
