Our Guest: Anna Harris

Anna Harris has come to see that the revelation of God as a loving, perfect Father is the foundation for life and healing. Her passion and ministry is to help Christians and Christian leaders recover from trauma and adversity, finding their first love again.

She is the founder of Defined by God Ministries and is a certified trauma & resilience life coach. Anna utilizes a combination of trauma recovery coaching and heart healing ministry tools with her coaching clients. She is also an author, speaker, podcast host, ordained Christian heart healing minister, and retreat host/speaker. Her informed and insightful teaching, intertwined with her own life story allows others to receive God’s healing love in their lives more readily.

Anna spent many years as the senior pastor of a local church, during which time she also founded and led their school of ministry. She is the proud mom of four adult children, and she now resides in central Texas with her two Maltese “babies”.

Key Thoughts and Scriptures:

Psalm 27:10 NLT Even if my father and mother abandon me, the Lord will hold me close.

Hebrews 13:5 NKJV …For He Himself has said, “I will never leave you nor forsake you.”

John 16.27 NKJV The Father Himself loves you…

  • When we hear prophetic words, we have to check it with the Lord and see if it resonates with our spirit.

Jeremiah 29:11 NIV For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.

  • The Holy Spirit will show up at a house. It doesn’t have to be a church building.

Anna learned her true identity as a child of God.

  • She used to have a lot of anxiety and would wake up everyday thinking, “Gosh, I need to please God today. God’s probably disappointed with me”
  • But when she encountered God as her Father, that feeling left.
  • When Anna asked Jesus to bring healing, she saw a picture of Him speaking right to her in the womb and saying, “You have a right to exist because I created you and I’m so happy that you’re about to be born.”
  • As God did a real work in her heart, she began to parent from her heart and realized that the main thing for them to know is that they’re loved, for them to know that they’re accepted and to really encourage them to operate in the gifts that God has given them.

John 10:17-18 ESV For this reason the Father loves me, because I lay down my life that I may take it up again. No one takes it from me, but I lay it down of my own accord. I have authority to lay it down, and I have authority to take it up again. This charge I have received from my Father.”

God knew Anna needed a time of rest and just being His daughter.

  • Pouring out her heart to God and listening to what He wanted to say back was healing for her.
  • “Lord, is this for me?”
  • Not everything that comes is our assignment.
  • Jesus had very good boundaries, and He would take time alone. He would take time with His small group of friends to rest.

Psalm 23:1-3 ESV The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want. He makes me lie down in green pastures… leads me beside still waters.  He restores my soul…

  • We have to learn how to be God’s child, how to be God’s sons and daughters and be with Him and enjoy Him.
  • Often we can get so busy with our lives that we forget to enjoy Him.

“Q. 1. What is the chief end of man? A. Man’s chief end is to glorify God, and to enjoy him for ever.” – the Shorter Westminster Catechism

  • Science has now confirmed that we can be impacted in the womb from the trauma that our birth mothers are going through.

Anna’s Keys to Building Resiliency

  • Build on the strengths that you already have.
  • A lot of times people are more resilient than they realize, and they just need someone to walk alongside and support them.
  • David in the Psalms would pour out his complaint to God. But then often by the end of the psalm, he’ll say, “but my hope is in God.”

1 Samuel 30:6 KJV …but David encouraged himself in the Lord his God.

  • God is listening even though we’re complaining.
  • We can build resiliency by encouraging ourselves in the Lord.
  • Realize the strengths and the talents or gifts or things that we’ve already overcome.
  • When we can realize that it was amazing that we overcame that can help build resiliency for the future as well.
  • The ability to forgive and not harbor offense because harboring offense just eats at your soul and forgiveness releases that out and allows God to fill  you again.

1 John 3:1 NIV See what great love the Father has lavished on us, that we should be called children of God! And that is what we are! The reason the world does not know us is that it did not know him.

Deborah’s Story

Judges 4-5 NIV

  • Deborah didn’t let anything stop her from following the call of God that was on her life.
  • She walked in authority and that’s what we can do as well.
  • The Father, God, paid an enormous price, the pain, death, and resurrection of Jesus, to adopt each one of us into His family.
  • And He’s a loving Father who has a plan and a purpose for each of us. And that plan and purpose is good.
  • So step into the Father’s love without fear.

Deuteronomy 33:12 NIV …“Let the beloved of the Lord rest secure in him, for he shields him all day long, and the one the Lord loves rests between his shoulders.”
