Our Guest: Sheryl Giesbrecht Turner
Exchanging hurt for hope is Sheryl Giesbrecht Turner’s focus—a message she shares with audiences as a radio and television personality, author and speaker. A dynamic teacher and motivating leader, Giesbrecht Turner has endured many changes and challenges, moving her to a deep faith, trust, and dependence on God.
Sheryl serves as founder and president of her non-profit From Ashes To Beauty, Inc. She is on field staff with discipleship and training ministry, Freedom In Christ. Sheryl is an award-winning author of five books. Her fifth book, Unraveling the Lie-Knot: Finding Freedom from the Tangles of Discouragement, Deception, and Depression was released in June 2021 and won the 2021 Non-Fiction Christian Market Book Award with Advanced Writers and Speakers. She served as Focus on the Family’s columnist for Pastor’s Wives for four years. Hundreds of her columns, magazine and devotional articles have appeared in Focus on The Family Magazine, Just Between Us, Discipleship Journal, CCM, Walk Thru the Bible’s – InDeed and Tapestry publications.
Sheryl has a heart for missions and is avid about reaching out to the poor and needy, locally as a volunteer Bible study teacher for the local Rescue Mission and worldwide through various ministry partners. Giesbrecht Turner is a Lead

The joys of Giesbrecht Turner’s life are her children and fourteen grandchildren. She is excited about the new beginning she shares with her marriage to Dr. Jim Turner. Sheryl holds a Bachelor of Arts from Biola University, holds a master’s in counseling and a Doctor of Divinity. She lives in California’s central valley where she enjoys running 5K races with her 92-year-old mother.

- By the time she was 13, Sheryl felt alone and unheard, which led to a drug addiction.
- During this time, she didn’t understand that God loved her and was keeping His eye on her.
1 Peter 4:8 NIV Above all, love each other deeply, because love covers over a multitude of sins.
- “It was God’s love that was encouraging me to trust Him. His love could cover all of the things that I couldn’t forgive myself for.”
- As people are saved, they need someone to come alongside them and help them get established in the Word.
- When the Lord takes us to where we have to start being honest with ourselves, He meets us there.
- God wants us to continue to trust Him.

- God is able to take all of the guilt, shame, blame, and unworthiness away from us.

If we know what God’s Word tells us, then we will believe God and we will be able to understand deceptive mindsets.

- “I was so overtaken by God’s peace. And I believe that can be true for every situation when we invite God in.”
- The body of Christ entering difficult situations with help and hope is Jesus with skin.
- Jesus wants us to enter into people’s situations by getting into their shoes, even though sometimes it can be ugly.
Jeremiah 29:11 NIV For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.
2 Corinthians 5:8 NKJV …to be absent from the body and to be present with the Lord.
- “Dear Lord, please protect my family from anything except what gives You glory.”

Sheryl learned to leave her baggage at the feet of Jesus.

- When we look down at our circumstances, we’re not looking up for God’s solutions.
- The Lord is the one who restores. He also rebuilds.

- Sheryl thanked God for the opportunity to trust Him in the midst of a decision.

- God’s used Sheryl’s story to help thousands of people break free from their past.
- When life knocks you down, choose to get back up. Put one foot in front of the other and let God lead you.

- When Mary and Martha asked Jesus to come and heal their brother, He didn’t come right away.
- Lord, how could you be late?
- We want to be in an advisory role with God.
John 11:44 NIV The dead man came out, his hands and feet wrapped with strips of linen, and a cloth around his face. Jesus said to them, “Take off the grave clothes and let him go.”
- Lazarus needed help. Mary and Martha were there to help unwrap their brother.
- Mary was one of the ones who was at the grave when Jesus was resurrected. She was able to tell what happened.
- Sheryl wants to be one of the people who is able to tell the story of God’s glory.
- “You don’t know what God can do.”
- God uses different women. He loves to use our stories. But also give us the privilege of helping someone else to realize that they’ve been resurrected.
Philippians 3:10-14 NLT I want to know Christ and experience the mighty power that raised him from the dead…to suffer with him, sharing in his death, so that one way or another I will experience the resurrection from the dead!…
- When we set our face on Jesus and the joy of eternity that awaits us, His grace will carry us through every situation.
Psalm 91:2 NKJV I will say of the Lord, “He is my refuge and my fortress; My God, in Him I will trust.”
In Closing
James 1:27 NKJV Pure and undefiled religion before God and the Father is this: to visit orphans and widows in their trouble, and to keep oneself unspotted from the world.
