Key Thoughts and Scriptures:

  • The song, “The Little Drummer Boy”, paints a beautiful picture of what we all experience when we encounter Jesus – we want to honor Him by giving Him something.

Matthew 2:1-11 NIV After Jesus was born in Bethlehem in Judea, during the time of King Herod, Magi from the east came to Jerusalem and asked, “Where is the one who has been born king of the Jews? We saw his star when it rose and have come to worship him.”…

Then Herod called the Magi secretly and found out from them the exact time the star had appeared. He sent them to Bethlehem and said, “Go and search carefully for the child. As soon as you find him, report to me, so that I too may go and worship him.” After they had heard the king, they went on their way, and the star they had seen when it rose went ahead of them until it stopped over the place where the child was. When they saw the star, they were overjoyed. On coming to the house, they saw the child with his mother Mary, and they bowed down and worshiped him. Then they opened their treasures and presented him with gifts of gold, frankincense and myrrh.

Worship – that is the gift we can ALL give Jesus.

John 4:23 NLT But the time is coming—indeed it’s here now—when true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and in truth. The Father is looking for those who will worship him that way.

  • When we first make a commitment to follow Christ, we give Him our heart.  But we must continue to do that through daily decisions to glorify and honor Him in our lives.

Matthew 22:36-40 NKJV “Teacher, which is the great commandment in the law?”  Jesus said to him, “‘You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind.’ This is the first and great commandment. And the second is like it: ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’ On these two commandments hang all the Law and the Prophets.”

Love is expressed in so many different ways by different people. And that is just how God created it to be!

1 Corinthians 13:4-7 NLT Love is patient and kind… is not jealous or boastful or proud or rude. It does not demand its own way… not irritable, and it keeps no record of being wronged. It does not rejoice about injustice but rejoices whenever the truth wins out. Love never gives up, never loses faith, is always hopeful, and endures through every circumstance.

  • Those are attitudes of our heart which should then be revealed through our actions and lives.
  • And because God has gifted each of us uniquely, we all have something special we can offer to others to share His love – not only at Christmastime – but all year round.

Acts 9:36-42 NLT There was a believer in Joppa named Tabitha (which in Greek is Dorcas). She was always doing kind things for others and helping the poor…

  • Tabitha gave her heart and all to glorify Jesus – and He was glorified!

Romans 16:3-5 NKJV Greet Priscilla and Aquila, my fellow workers in Christ Jesus, who risked their own necks for my life, to whom not only I give thanks, but also all the churches of the Gentiles.  Likewise greet the church that is in their house…

I Corinthians 16:19 NKJV The churches of Asia greet you. Aquila and Priscilla greet you heartily in the Lord, with the church that is in their house.

  • Priscilla gave what she had – her life….her gift of hospitality to help the church during a time of severe persecution.

Luke 8:1-3 NKJV Joanna traveling with Jesus

Luke 24:1-12 NKJV At the tomb

As you consider what You can give to Jesus – this season and throughout the year – start with thanksgiving and praise; worship Him in spirit and in truth.

Psalm 96:7-9 NLT …Give to the Lord the glory he deserves! Bring your offering and come into his courts. Worship the Lord in all his holy splendor. Let all the earth tremble before him.

I John 5:3 NLT Loving God means keeping his commandments, and his commandments are not burdensome.

Isaiah 9:6 NLT For a child is born to us, a son is given to us. The government will rest on his shoulders. And he will be called: Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God,    Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.
